Shootout At Calabar Prison Leaves Two Dead, Others Injured

An attempted prison break at the Federal Prison in Calabar has left at least two persons killed, officials of the Nigeria Prisons Service have said.

Also, a number of people have been confirmed to have sustained serious injuries and are receiving treatment in undisclosed medical facilities in Calabar.

According to reports, the fence of the prison was broken and a large hole created in other to enable the men escape. The prison authorities have said that no inmate escaped but reports claim two prison inmates may have escaped as a result of the punctured prison wall in the confusion that followed the shoot out.
