Pope Francis has requested that Roman Catholic Priests, in Brazil, be given the right to marry. The request is on the agenda for an upcoming church council in the Amazon region.
A small number if married Roman Catholic Priests already exist inclusive of already married Anglican vicars who joined the Catholic church.
Brazilian Bishop, Cardinal Claudio Hummes made the request to lift the ban on marraige.
It was reported that he asked the Pope to consider ‘viri probati’ which means married of great faith as priests.
It was suggested by Father Paddy O’Kane that the Pope may move to end celibacy seeing as there was support from the church for the idea.
Previously both Pope Francis and his predecessor Benedict XVI have stated that celibacy is not a matter of inflexible church dogma and could be debated...
